LG G8X ThinQ (A dual screen phone)

Flagship Smartships from LG do not stay in the light long after their launch, as do many of their competitors. OnePlus and Samsung, on the other hand, have the most important parts in the minds of listeners. The South Korean company is now trying to make a mark by adopting its folding smartphone, the LG G8X ThinQ. This new device can act as a standard smartphone, but it also allows you to redo your screen space with the add-on display case included in the box. The G8X ThinQ costs about Rs. 49,999 in India, including a display case, and it is the first time such a product has been made in our market. Is it useful or just a gimmick? We checked to find out.

The LG G8X ThinQ games have a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with a small watertight top. The bezels are small on the sides of the display while the lower chin is slightly twisted. It has a dedicated Google Assistant button and is among the few phones to keep a 3.5mm headphone jack. LG also included a dual device accessory that helps connect the same display to the phone.

The LG G8x ThinQ phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It packs with 4,000mAh battery and has fast charging support. The LG G8X ThinQ uses the LG UX 9.0 over Android 9 Pie. This device has a Hi-Fi DAC feature and supports DTS: X 3D Surround sound. It offers great performance and the device is able to handle whatever you throw at it.

The LG G8X ThinQ follows the same design language as its predecessors. This smartphone has a sandwich design with a glass and metal frame between the display and the rear glass panel. This smartphone is tall and a little chubby. On the front, it has a 6.4-inch OLED FullVision display with a small watertight top. It has small bezels on the sides but the bottom is relatively fat.

LG has placed a power button on the right side of the device, and it's easy to access. On the left, you'll find volume buttons and a dedicated Google Assistant button. If you use Google Assistant more often you will find this very effective. We looked around in the settings app but could not find a repeat button.

The LG G8X ThinQ game has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom and a main microphone, speaker, and USB Type-C port. At the top, there is only a SIM tray. The LG G8X ThinQ is among the few smartphones that should have rear-mounted rear cameras. At a time when many devices with camera modules were out, LG was able to give this phone a clean look. The back is made of glass but bent at the sides, making it easy to hold. However, the smartphone picks up smudges easily and is very smooth. We even noticed the slippery surface when placed on a soft surface.

LG is shipping this smartphone to Aurora Black only. As well as the Dual Screen accessory case, you get earphones and a 16W charger packed in a box. LG also installed a magnetic connector that can be used to charge the smartphone while using the Dual Screen case.

LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen Case

LG cleverly assembled a dual-screen accessory with the G8X ThinQ. The case itself has two indicators. The first one is a little monochrome outside that lights up the notifications or when you lift the device. Displays battery level, time, date and app icons with pending notifications. The front indicator is hard to see when the phone is not in use, as LG has selected the screen end of the front case. This also takes smudges easily. The glossed front panel is in the center to turn the case hinge.

Open the case at the top and you will see a second display inside. This is also a 6.4-inch OLED display with a notch of waterdrop, to match the phone screen. This notch means nothing here as it is empty, and it looks like LG has used the same panel exactly as the phone display. The case does not open properly; it is like having a step between these two mirrors so they are not at the same level at any given time. You can insert the case cover completely, and this simply shuts off the second display.

This case has a male USB Type-C connector that connects to the LG G8X ThinQ. Once connected, both displays in this case are powered by a smartphone battery. If you plan to use this case regularly, you can expect battery life to last. If the battery level of the smartphone drops below 15 percent, the second indicator will turn off. The case also has magnets and pogo-pin contacts below so you can charge it using the installed adapter, eliminating the need to remove it from the case regularly.

Details of LG G8X ThinQ and software

The LG G8X ThinQ is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. LG has added a heat pipe to help cool the processor when it is under load. There is one configuration for the offer. We would love to see the new Snapdragon 855+ SoC, but the Snapdragon 855 is welcome considering the features and capabilities of this smartphone.

The 6.4-inch OLED display has good viewing angles and is bright enough when viewing outdoor content. The G8X ThinQ also plays a built-in fingerprint scanner. There is dual-support 4G and VoLTE support, as well as Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi ac, NFC, GPS, and common basic sensors. LG has packed a 4,000mAh battery and there is support for fast charging via USB Type-C port.

A hybrid dual-SIM tray will force you to choose between a second SIM and expandable storage

LG is shipping the G8X ThinQ running the LG UX 9.0 over the Android 9 Pie, and we would love to see Android 10. LG has said it plans to upgrade this smartphone to the latest version of Android, along with a few other models. The number of bloatware apps is controlled, and those on the phone include Facebook, Instagram, and Booker.com. There are other LG apps like ThinQ, LG Health, and LG SmartWorld.

The UI does not have an app drawer but is easy to use. The settings app is well configured and we found that the search function was working properly. Like other LG smartphones, the LG G8X ThinQ has a Hi-Fi Quad DAC feature, and supports DTS: X 3D Surround sound. It also has stereo speakers, where the ear plug is doubled as a second speaker. We enjoyed watching the content on the LG G8X as the audio output was impressive.

LG G8X ThinQ performance and battery life

The LG G8X brings very high performance due to sports hardware. We did not encounter any lag or stutter while using the smartphone. With 6GB of RAM, this device is very smooth when done with many tasks and loads. Even if the second display was turned on and used a completely different application, this device could not handle the load properly. We would not recommend running two heavy apps at the same time, as this would cause the smartphone to overheat. We also found that the fingerprint scanner is slow and inconsistent.
