This is the 21st century, or we can say the era of machines. where we surrounded by different electronic devices. almost everything we use in our daily life is now governed by machines and now has developed into a complex digital ecosystem with an aspect such as machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and logical thinking with help of Deep Sense. This ecosystem of automation is well embedded within our surroundings and governs our day to day lives.
The smartphones are one of the most popular resemblances of this digital ecosystem, and in the context of Indian families, it is the most highly used gadget but also a device that is seen as a curse to society by our elders. In the current, the number of users of smartphones in India is exponentially growing and it was 524.9 million in the year of 2011.
Let’s get started with the topic but first, we should know what is the definition of privacy in general?
Privacy can be defined as the right to be isolated or freedom from any kind of interference and intrusion, the right to share your personal information with others. And having control over how this information will be collected and used within the digital ecosystem. But this definition was correct if we were in living in the ’20s. But now in the era where the internet is omnipresent and people are using smartphones for every general task. It has become a myth.
Why is Privacy dissolving?
Many cases happen which we going to discuss where the company found to be sold private information of the users and government also using this information.
Recently a case happened, where Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos Phones got hacked by Crown prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman just by a what’s app message with the help of spyware.
And there was a massive security breach in December 2019 where data of 250 million breached through the customer service and supports departments. Which included contacts, emails, and payment information.
For brief knowledge, you can visit this URL
In our daily life some of us using smart speakers in India it’s not common but in a country like us it is common. They are using a microphone as a medium of input. In the last year in Forbes stated that Alexa (Smart speaker of Amazon) is listening to the private conversation of the consumer and upload on the servers. Which was the big privacy theft done by amazon? Suppose if you use Alexa in your bedroom and you are unaware that all of your conversations are recorded it was a serious issue but later it was fixed by the company.
We are using smartphones more than every gadget. And most of the smartphones work on the open-source android. That is the reason it has better 3rd party application support. When we install any app it will ask us for permissions like access to the contacts, reading our messages, Check our call logs, access to the phone location, etc. these are some private information which user want to hide it sometime. And for this, they use passwords, etc. but they don’t know that they already gave access to the other apps which leaks their data. And have control all over your sensitive information. So it will we better to check for permission whenever you install an application. And download them from trusted sources. Recently google play store some of the application like Omni cleaner, selfie master, smart cooler, AIO flashlight, Es file explorer, etc. due privacy concern and frauds.
Apart from conversation, Nowadays your Banking information is not also safe We daily read in newspapers, heard in the news about various scams and fraud. Recently the news was coming out where Details of Credit and Debit card od Indian was on the sale on the dark web (Dark side of the internet where All illegal activity happens.) some of the points were.
● Card details of 1.3 lakh Indians were on the sale for at $100 per card.
● The total value of leaked data was $130 million or £100 million.
● About 51.7 million credit cards and 851.5 million debit cards were on circulation in august 2019.
Apart from Smartphones and Banking details the Government of every country spying on its citizens. Our every call and message will be tapped by the government. Well, we can’t blame to government for this reason. This is an issue related to National security.
As conclusion, I would like to say that nowadays nothing is private until only you and you know about that. And privacy just became a myth.
Thank you.
